Eye eye eye!
The first time I went to the London Eye was with my dad. At the time, I didn't get what all the fuss was about, after all it was just an oversized ferris wheel, no? I was also pre-occupied with trying to get to topshop, calculating how long it would take to get to topshop, what I wanted from topshop. I was 17 after all. We took one look at the que and ended up going to the Dali exhibition next to it - not ones for queing!
Since moving to London I've seen it a couple times, and always look out for it whenever I'm in the right areas. Same goes for the gherkin - perhaps its just trying to locate myself in relation to the two buildings/monuments. More so recently as my theory project is based on southbank. Kyle's been looking as obelisks so I came with him to find Cleopatra's Needle on the other side of the river, near Embankment.
Its quite amazing to think that a couple of years ago this picture would have been very different. Let alone when the obelisk first landed on this spot.
So, on Sunday, I finally managed to get myself on one of those famous pods up up into the London sky! It was ashleigh's birthday so John came down and surprised Ash with a 'champagne flight.' We shared the pod with another family who kindly took our photo while we were all giddy with excitement as the began to make our way around the wheel.
Oh and even better yet? We got to jump the que!
Having been there and done t hat its quite easy to see the London Eye as a London icon and why so many have bought into the idea namely the Americans . And its easy to see why. The one thing I did notice while I was up there though, was how compact a city London is. Being able to see all the way from Primrose hill, through to Crystal Palace through past Canary wharf and beyond on all sides just makes this huge scarey city, that little more bite sized. xxw
